About Meower Power

An over population of feral cats is a problem for many areas within the Hampton Roads Communities. The presence of feral cats indicates an ecological niche that must be filled. Permanent removal creates a vacuum which is then filled through migration and reproduction, increasing population turnover but not decreasing colony population.

How the Program Works

The structure of our program is to decrease, stabilize and manage the colony population by humanely trapping, spaying/neutering, vaccinating, ear-tipping to mark animals already treated, and releasing the feral cats back into their original territories. When the animals are released, the colony is then put on a maintenance program where continued feeding and medical care are provided by a volunteer colony manager with assistance from Meower Power. The colony is also monitored for new members. We also socialize and adopt out kittens from the colonies. Meower Power works in conjunction with PETsMARTtm stores (Chesapeake and Newport News, VA locations), Tidewater Humane SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program), and various local veterinarians. Additionally, we sponsor a monthly low cost feral spay/neuter day. For more information see Feral Colony Management and Control and Calendar of Events.

We are a tax exempt (501 (c)(3)) organization, totally dependent upon public donations and contributions to offset public awareness training, feeding, housing, and medical costs. Make your tax exempt donations payable to Meower Power and send to the address on the homepage. Thank you for caring and the gift of life, from all of our feline friends!
